The Springerville Town Council consists of 4 council members, a Mayor, and Vice-Mayor (who also is a member of the council), elected from the local residents. Staggered elections are held every two years. The purpose of the Town Council is to determine policy and strategic goals, which are handed down to the Town Manger for implementation.

Mayor Kay Dyson

Mayor Kay Dyson and her family have lived in Springerville since 1981.  Before that time they lived in Alpine where her husband Bob first came to the White Mountains as a forester in 1978.  Serving on the town council since 1998, Mayor Dyson's "pet projects" are the development of the 6.3 acres of town property where the current Town Hall stands next to the Old Springerville elementary School.  "I hope to see this area developed as the heart and soul of our community."  This would include rehabilitation of the old Springerville School, building a new fire/police building and maintain a community gathering area for outdoor activities including concerts, play space, and picnics.  Her goal is to see that the old school is restored for community space along with a Town Council Chamber and government office space.  Mayor Dyson also believes strongly in making the town "clean and beautiful."  This involves helping citizens eradicate blight from their neighborhoods through compliance to rules in the community - zoning ordinances.  Road improvements, water and sewer infrastructure stabilization and bringing jobs to the community are also tops on her priority list.

A graduate of Arizona State University, our Mayor worked for our local hospital for 13 years in the Medical Records Department and for the Town of Eagar as the Parks and Recreation Director for seven years.  She "retired" to run for Mayor in 2002 and was elected in the primary.  She serves as the chairperson for the White Mountain Communities Special Health Care District and has been on that board since 1995.  She is also a volunteer for the RTA Hospice for our area.  Mayor Dyson welcomes your ideas on how to improve our town so feel free to contact her at 333-2656.
